When I first heard about the Silhouette Cameo I just knew I needed to have one. When I got my Silhouette Cameo I thought EVERYONE needs to have one.
You can literally make anything. And it’s so straight forward to use.
Today I am going to be sharing 5 projects I have done with my Cameo to give you some inspiration. If you would like to know more about how I created a specific project let me know in the comments and I will happily make a more detailed post.
Let’s get started!
- Wood Branded Sign
What you need:
- Silhouette Cameo
- Vinyl
- Transfer tape
- Wooden Plaque
- Pencil
- Wood burner
This project was very easy and inexpensive to make. Last year my husband and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary and the traditional gift for 5 years is wood.
I wanted to create a family monogram so I went onto the silhouette design store and found one that I liked, loaded it into the silhouette app and put in our details.
I measured the diameter of the wooden plaque and then put a circle around our monogram so that it would be cut to size and I could centre the design in the circle.
The Cameo cut the design on a regular sheet of vinyl. I think for this project stencil vinyl would work well too but you can use whatever you have.
Once your design is cut, weed out the letters so that you create a stencil. Transfer onto the transfer tape.
Using the transfer tape, stick your vinyl stencil over the wooden plaque, then use a pencil to shade in over the letters.
Once it’s all shaded in remove the stencil. Use your wood burner to fill in the design you created with the pencil.
And that’s all there is too it! If you don’t have a wood burner you can pick one up for quite cheap at a craft store.
- Canvas Art
What you need:
- Silhouette Cameo
- Vinyl
- Transfer tape
- Canvas
- Paint or spray paint
- Paint brushes (if using paint)
This project is similar to the wooden plaque one but with a totally different look.
It’s also just as easy! Follow the same steps as above but once your stencil is on the canvas you can get straight to painting!
With these designs I used a Breakfast at Tiffany’s dingbat font. For one of the designs I weeded out the image and for the other two weeded out the background and only placed the image on the canvas.
You can then proceed with your painting. I used spray paint to paint over the whole canvas and waited for it to dry then removed the vinyl from the canvas. Easy as that!
- Etched Champagne Glass
What you need:
- Silhouette Cameo
- Vinyl
- Transfer tape
- Champagne glass
- Glass etching cream
- Paintbrush
This project has by far the most impressive outcome. I made these personalised champagne glasses for my husband and he thought I ordered them online!
You follow the steps to make a stencil. Make sure it’s measured out correctly and then place the vinyl stencil on the glass.
Using a paintbrush, paint over the stencil with the glass etching cream, wait a minute and then wash it off.
Immediately your glass is ready! It’s dishwasher safe too which is a must in my books.
- Vinyl Wall Stickers
What you need:
- Silhouette Cameo
- Vinyl
- Transfer tape
Create your own design or download one from the Silhouette design store. Cut it on the vinyl and then weed out all the excess vinyl until only the picture/writing is left. Transfer onto the transfer tape and then place it onto the desired wall/surface. I placed this design onto a cupboard.
- Personalised Chair
What you need:
- Silhouette Cameo
- Vinyl
- Transfer tape
- Wooden Chair
- Paint
- Paintbrush
- Varnish
I am a sucker for all things personalised. I think this project would make an excellent gift for a child.
I followed all the steps above and placed my vinyl stencil onto a wooden stool from IKEA and painted it with regular acrylic paint.
After it dried, I removed the stencil and sprayed it with multipurpose varnish.
It’s really as simple as that!
These were the first projects I tried with my Cameo so they are definitely beginner level!
If you enjoyed this post and would like to see more Cameo project ideas, let me know in the comments! I have done many more projects with my Cameo I’d love to share.
