I’ve always loved a tea party. If you’re looking for a sophisticated, feminine and fun way to celebrate any occasion – a tea party is the answer!
Birthdays, kitchen teas, baby showers or even just a get together with friends!
Add some sparkle with champagne to make it a Royal tea party!
Whether it’s a high tea or a Royal tea – it’s sure to bring smiles to all of your guests faces.
Another thing that is great about tea parties is that you can make them as big or small as you like.
With a pretty tea set and a cake stand, you can make the perfect tea for two or tea for ten.
While we are talking numbers, I feel it’s important to mention that of course during these times it’s not recommended to host large gatherings.
Depending on where you live it might not be smart to have any kind of a gathering, even a small one. So please be responsible and pay attention to the recommendations where you live as well as your own instincts.
At the moment, where we live, you are allowed to have gatherings at your home with up to 20 people. So I felt confident this year hosting a small tea party with three of my friends and their kiddos as a belated birthday celebration.
If you are unable to have people over at this time, you can always make a tea party with just your family or with your kids!
In this post I will be sharing some tips and tricks to hosting the perfect tea party for any occasion!
Let’s get started.
Guest list
As with any party, set up a guest list so that you know know how many people to cater for.
Invitations
Making a beautiful invitation is simple and free! There are many apps and websites available to help you.
This is the invitation I designed myself.
My favorite website for all things graphic design is Canva. They also have free templates available for tea parties and every other occasion you can think of.
Even if it’s just an informal get together with the girls, having a small invitation can add a special touch. It also serves as a reminder to the guests about the date and time etc.
You can send the invitation digitally or via the post. Whichever works best for you. Just make sure to send it out 2-4 weeks in advance to give your guests enough time to save the date.
Decor
One of the great things about a tea party is the decor lies in your tea set and food.
A beautiful tea set and a cake stand decorated with confections, fresh fruit and cucumber sandwiches are all you really need to put on a great event!
Add some fresh flowers to brighten up the table and you’re good to go!
My tea set it from the Miranda Kerr Everyday Friendship collection by Royal Albert. I absolutely love the feminine design!
You can always add some bunting, balloons, garlands etc. if the party is for a special occasion which you want to highlight.
Food
Usually I enjoy baking from scratch but recently I’ve learned to compromise and prioritize.
For this event I bought everything ready made. Which in many instances can save you time and money if you shop at the right place.
This is what I had on the menu:
- Chocolate Truffles
- Macarons
- Donuts
- Mini Meringues
- Assorted cake slices
- Grapes
- Lye Rolls with Butter
For the kids I added some extra snacks:
- Apple Chips
- Pretzels
- Marshmallows
- Mini muffins
- Chocolate brownies
Other ideas perfect for a tea party:
- Scones with whipped cream and strawberries
- Sandwiches
- Fresh fruit
- Cupcakes
- Cookies
You can let your mind run wild with the food and serve all your favorite things. Just remember to try keep the size of each item small so that people can try a variety of things without filling up on one slice of cake. Think mini and bite size!
It’s good to have a variety of sweet and savoury foods. This time I went a bit overboard with the sweet variety, but I have zero regrets 😉
Drinks
The highlight of any tea party is of course the tea! I always have an assortment of teas and allow my guests to choose.
I filled two teapots with boiling water so that the guests could have whichever tea they wanted.
Of course, not everyone is a tea drinker. Having coffee available to serve as an option is a good idea.
Don’t forget to put a sugar bowl and milk jug on the table too.
Adding some infused water always goes down well and also looks pretty. I added some mint and cucumber to infuse the water and it was so refreshing!
Because this tea party was on a very hot day, I made some lemonade too.
I am a huge fan of champagne or sparkling wine. In my opinion it works for any occasion! So of course it works here too. I served the alcohol free variety because most the guests still needed to drive.
For the kids I got some fruit juice and sparkling water.
Favors
I kept the favors simple and sweet. All I did was put some macarons in a clear plastic bag and added a thank you note with each guests name on it.
I rested them in the teacups which looked really cute!
For the kids I filled some colorful floral bags with vanilla milk, marshmallows and a mini muffin. I labeled each bag with a name tag and that was it.
I hope that this post gave you some inspiration for your next tea party.
Was there anything I left out? Let me know in the comments what you love having at high tea!
